In August, the number of visas issued experienced a slight decline compared to the previous month, decreasing by 2.6%. However, in comparison to the same period last year, there was a notable positive variation of 36.2% (Graph 1).
Despite the overall downturn, the number of visas issued for visits, humanitarian aid, and studies showed positive variations during the month (Graph 2).
The nationalities that received the most visas in the month were from China, India, the United States, and Angola (Map 1).

STI
STI (International Traffic System)
In August, the volume of movements through border crossings experienced a slight decline compared to July, with a decrease of 4.7% (Graph 3).
Despite this decrease in movement volume, inflows of resident or temporary immigrants surpassed outflows in both July and August (Graph 4).

SISMIGRA
SisMigra (National Migration Registry System)
The number of residence registrations in August rose by 15.7% (Graph 5). This increase was primarily driven by the behavior of temporary residents, which saw a rise of 21.1%. In contrast, registrations for residents and border residents declined by -5.7% and -7.9%, respectively.
Boa Vista and São Paulo emerged as the primary cities indicated by immigrants as their place of residence (Graph 6).
Venezuelans and Bolivians constituted the main nationalities to obtain residence permits in August (Map 2).

Solicitantes
Applicants for refugee status recognition
The number of asylum applications suffered a positive variation of 13.4% month-on-month and 6.8% year-on-year (Graph 7).
Pacaraima/RR and Boa Vista/RR continued to serve as the main entry points for applicants (Graph 8).
Venezuelans and Cubans remained the primary nationalities applying for asylum in Brazil (Map 3).

CGIL
CGIL (General Coordination of Labor Immigration)
For the second consecutive month, residence permits for work or investment purposes have seen an increase. However, it's worth noting that since October 2020, permits have remained relatively stable around the 2,000 mark (Graph 9).
The main countries of birth of the beneficiaries of these permits are China, the Philippines, the United States of America, and India (Graph 10).
Among skilled workers, the occupational groups of managers and science and arts professionals stood out (Graph 11).

CTPS/RAIS/NOVO CAGED
Harmonized database Work and Social Security Card (CTPS)/Annual Report of Social Information (RAIS)/New General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (CAGED)
Compared to June, there was a negative fluctuation in the movement of immigrant workers in the formal job market and in the number of jobs created for this workforce segment, although the figures remained positive (refer to Graph 12).
Despite this challenging scenario, certain occupations saw an increase in job vacancies. Among the primary occupations, cleaners, construction workers, food service assistants, goods warehouse workers, cashiers, and sales clerks experienced a rise in the number of available positions (refer to Graph 13).
In the Southern region, 2,600 jobs were generated for immigrants in July, while the Southeast, ranking second, saw a little over 900 job openings for immigrants (Map 4).

BACEN - Transferências Pessoais
BACEN - Personal Bank Transfer
Both inflows and outflows associated with personal transfers, as reported by the Central Bank, experienced a decrease in their volumes, indicating a decline in the monthly balance, which remained positive at US$ 145 million (Graph 14).
During July, the primary origins and destinations of funds entering and exiting the country were the United States, Portugal, and the United Kingdom (Maps 5 and 6).
